Cool Desert Nights 2010 – The Cars

There were a lot of cars….

As mentioned in the previous post, Cool Desert Nights, is a three-day classic car and street rod event held in Richland’s Uptown Center parking lot. Although I volunteered later during the evenings, I spent most of Friday evening and Saturday enjoying the cars. Although there were all kinds of cars there, from Lamborghinis to ice-cream trucks, it is the 50s era vehicles that catch my eye, as will be evident by the photos I took.

Besides a “Show ‘n Shine” in the parking lot where you can get up close and personal with the cars, the cars also cruised Richland on Friday evening. I sat on George Washington Way and snapped some photos of the cars as they went by. Some of the photos had 2 or 3 classic cars together and I try to imagine that this is what Richland looked like in the 50s.

It was fun to see which vehicles were catching the crowds attention. I did not get to go to the awards ceremony on Saturday to see which vehicles won the various awards. Course it did not matter, I know which ones I like. What is your favorite vehicle? Mine is the 1957 Chevy Pickup. I have one in the garage that one day I hope to find the time and money to work on again. (First must get all 7 kids through braces and college.)

Cool Desert Nights 2010 – The Beer Garden & Street Dance

Once again it is time for Cool Desert Nights, a three-day classic car and street rod event held in Richland’s Uptown Center parking lot. Cool Desert Nights features car cruises, street dances, a Show ‘n Shine, games & activities, pancake breakfast, judging, awards, and most of all a great time.

As a member of the Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce, I volunteered to help at the beer (and wine) garden, taking the late shift both Friday and Saturday night. The beer garden is in the Street Dance area in the north-east portion of the Uptown parking lot, where the bands play and the people dance. This means I also get free admission! This volunteer stuff ain’t half bad! The beer garden is a fun place to volunteer because the crowd is there to have fun and your ‘co-volunteers’ come to ‘work’ to have a good time. ( And to answer your question, NO, you cannot drink during your shift. )

The music Friday night was by Dance Maxx, playing 70’s-90’s dance music. I thought they did well but attendance was rather low. Tonight is supposed to be much busier with a Tom Petty tribute band, Petty Fever.

Let the good times roll.
