Astronomy Day 2006
This year National Astronomy Day will be observed on Saturday, May 6th at both LIGO and CBC’s Moore Observatory. Both venues will have members of the Tri-City Astronomy Club available with their telescopes and knowledge of the sky for star gazing. All ages are welcome and admission is free.
LIGO’s program will begin at 7:00pm with a showing of the movie “Einstein’s Messengers.” At 7:30pm Roy Gephart, the astronomy columnist for the Tri-City Herald, will talk about “Our Place in the Universe,” and at 8:15pm LIGO scientist Greg Mendell will give a planetarium-style tour of “The Sky Tonight”.
At 9:00pm images from the Rattlesnake Mountain Observatory will be viewable through a live feed and members of the astronomy club will assist in viewing the moon, planets, and stars until 12:00 midnight.
CBC’s Moore Observatory is hosting a public viewing event and other hands-on activities from 7:00pm to 11:00pm. You are invited to come and learn more about the mysteries of the skies and astronomy in general.
