Baptized into One Body
Alastair at 40 Bicycles pointed me to Dennis Hou’s blog. He makes some interesting points but what caught my attention the most was this:
There are not many baptisms, (Hebrews vi, 2,) but only one baptism, (Ephesians iv, 5.) This one baptism began with Christ’s baptism, transfiguration, and crucifixion, continuing at Pentecost and still continuing to this day until all God’s elect shall be gathered together from the four winds. Whenever someone receives this baptism, you have gained a brother, and he has gained you.
For this reason, when you behold the baptism of another, you are beholding your own salvation in progress. Because this is salvation: the body of Christ.
