The main thing to remember is that your car only has insurance while you are driving. Your insurance will not protect you or your friend if your friend is driving your car. As the legal owner of the car, you are responsible for any injury or damage caused by your car even if someone else is driving and even if they have insurance. (Their insurance protects them, not you.)

I live in Colorado and Broadform is legal here although the major insurance companies don’t offer it upfront. Most will tell you that it is not available so as to sell the named vehicle policy for each of your vehicles. I have had if for years and have converted many of my friends to using it. Mainly for people who have multiple cars with no loan and don’t mind risking the value of their vehicles as they not covered with this type insurance. Best to search out a insurance broker and not a salesman to purchase this type of coverage. You must buy a separate one for each of class vehicles car, motorcycle or RV. Personal only and NO commercial usage allowed. You can drive you friends uninsured car also.

OK, I live in LA,NYC,Maimi Beach and Las Vegas. I own 5 vehicles and pay five policies. Is that nuts? I can't drive all five thye same time. Shouldnt I get6 an operators policy to cover all of them? Or I mean cover me?

I am pretty sure it is available in a number of states but don’t know which. I know Oregon, our neighbor to the south, does not, but I think Idaho does?

Is Washington the only state that allows this type of insurance coverage ? I live in Maine and would like to obtain this type of insurance for multiple vehicle use .

The legal authority is that a broadform is a type of policy that the state of Washington allows. Your agent probably is a ‘captive’ agent that only knows what his company has taught him. Most of the captive companies don’t write broadform policies so their agents don’t think they exist.
