Kennewick Woman, Rebecca Huston, Not Abducted

It appears that the story Rebecca Huston told the police about being abducted on the corner of Edison and Clearwater here in Kennewick and being forced to drive to Ukiah, CA was a hoax.
Huston initially told the California police that she had been the victim of a carjacking. She claimed that an masked man with a gun forced his way into her car and ordered her to drive down the coast to California. Once they reached Ukiah the man forced her to climb into the garbage dumpster and then fled. Her car was found nearby.
In a four-page statement she gave to the Kennewick police on Monday she confirmed what she had told the Ukiah police last Friday: she was on her way to work on April 13th and decided to drive to California on her own.
Huston told the police she was embarrassed when she was discovered at the landfill and made up the story of being abducted and that she was unaware of the extensive search.
According to the Tri-City Herald:
When she reached Ukiah, she waited until the end of the day to leave her car in an Albertsons parking lot and walked to a Big 5 Sporting Goods store, where she climbed into a commercial trash bin.
Maynard said she told detectives why she climbed into the trash bin, but he declined to make the reason public.
The trash bin later was emptied by a garbage truck and Huston was trapped inside the truck. Maynard said the garbage truck emptied more bins, and compacted the trash inside it five times, before dumping its load at the Ukiah Transfer Station landfill in the city’s south end.
So, why would you crawl into a commercial dumpster? Food? Shelter? Potty Break?
And could you imagine being compacted? The compacter in the garbage trucks must not squeeze too hard, but it would still be quite a scare.
