Richland Dangerous Animal Ordinance

Richland joins Pasco and Kennewick in enacting a dangerous animal ordinance. The regulations require that pit bull owners pay a $250 registration and carry $250,000 dog liability insurance policy, keep their dogs locked in a secure area, and post a dangerous-animal sign.

I am not a pit bull fan, but how does a police officer determine if the dog is a pit bull? Can he just eye-ball it and determine that the person is breaking the law? What if the owner claims it is not a pit bull? Is there a DNA test?

And what about Rottweilers, Doberman Pinchers, and German Shepherds? Those seem at least as threatening to me. :-)

I find it very sickning that a Pit bull / Am Staff owner (or one that animal control or whom ever) deems to be Pit bull will be TAXED/FINED and certainly TAXED again somehow for choosing to own a Pit Bull. This only because some “ignorant and obviously spinless person(s) can’t stand alone, and feel the need to follow suite with those around them!! So they declare Pit Bulls and anything that looks remotley close to one, adults and puppies of all ages to be… “Potentialy Dangerous!!”

And yet, on the same streets as these “Potentialy Dangerous” Puppies….we have unstable individuals purchasing hand guns and killing our nieghbors and friends…Seems very odd to me, that a person can obtain a conceled weapons permitt along with hand guns Etc…all for a dramatically lower cost than you would pay for owning and insuring a “pit bull!”
I hope that those who are closed minded and uneducated about the breed can atleast take a bigger look at some alternative methods…begining with EDUCATION and SPAYand NEUTER ASSISTANCE!!!
