The Pirate Coast by Richard Zacks - Started
I have just started listening to The Pirate Coast: Thomas Jefferson, The First Marines, and the Secret Mission of 1805 by Richard Zacks.
It is early 1800s and the Barbary Pirates are a scourge to any nation who refuses to pay tribute to the ruler of Tripoli. America refuses to pay tribute and instead is patrolling the waters around Tripoli to commandeer any Barbary Pirate ship it can capture. One of the American war ships runs aground when it chased a ship into the Tripoli harbor. As was common practice, all the sailors on board are forced into slavery.
This is the true story of a disgraced American diplomat, William Eaton, who embarks on a covert mission to overthrow the ruler of Tripoli and free the American sailor/slaves.
After I finish the book I will give a follow-up review.
