US Cellular - LG VX6100 & BitPim
Well my old Motorola cell phone finally took a header and broke. Went down to the local US Cellular office and looked at their offerings and decided I did not need to spend the extra money required to get a phone that would use a bluetooth headset. Instead I got an LG VX6100 which has the standard camera, speaker phone, etc, that my old phone did not have. So far what I miss is a real ‘ring’ instead of stupid ringtones and the ability to set the phone to vibrate for the first two rings before going audible.
I did buy the USB data cable while I was at the store so that I could download any photos I took directly to my computer without having to pay $0.25 each to use the cell service to do it. Also the cable allowed me to transfer any contacts I had in Outlook to the cell phone. BitPim is the open source program I used to transfer both the phone numbers and the photos. Each phone number that I wanted to transfer to the phone was added to an Outlook category called @Cell and then I transferred just those numbers to my phone.

I learned how to set the phone to vibrate before ringing! Accidentally hit the side volume buttons on the phone while I had it open and the highest volume setting is Vib & High.

You said that you used BitPim to upload your pictures from the vx6100 phone to your PC? I have USCellular as well, and have already downloaded the BitPim software. The only problem is that even after I connect the USB cable to both the computer and my phone, it still says “cannot detect phone”…maybe this is because it doesn’t have the drivers needed? I’m not sure, but can you tell me what you did to make it work?

Yes, Mine will not ‘detect the phone’ either. What that does is ask the phone what kind of phone it is and I guess the LG vx6100 does not respond. I just went in and manually entered in “Edit | Settings” the Phone Type to “LG-VX6100″. I don’t remember if I had to hit the ‘browse’ for the Com Port or if it detected it automatically.
The “cannot detect phone” threw me too - but even though it cannot detect - When I hit “Data | Get Phone Data” and then check the box for “Wallpaper” it downloads all the photos from my phone.
Let me know if this does or does not work.

Does anyone know how to set the LG VX6100 to just a PLAIN vibrate only? I really need to know. Cuz all I can get is Vibrate & Ring, but i just want VIBRATE ONLY. Please help. Thanx

I think you just hold down the * (asterisk) key for 2 seconds. Hold it a second time and it will turn it back to your ‘regular’ ring style.
When I wear my phone I have it on Vibe only mode. When I have it sitting on my dresser I change it back to regular ring so I can hear it.

To set it to vibrate only, you can also use the volume buttons on the side of the phone…..With the phone closed just hold the down button and it will show Manner Mode on your screen and to change it back to ring just hold it again and it will return to Normal Mode! It will not work with the phone open…it has to be closed.

I just bought the Verizon “Mobile Office Kit” for the data cable in it that would hopefully allow me to download the pictures in my phone to my computer. However, I read somewhere that the cable in the Mobile Office Kit is not really a data cable (even though the kit also contains software for managing your cellphone’s phone book, so go figure). Can you tell me if your data cable is the one from the Mobile Office Kit? Also, is there anything else you need besides the data cable and the bitpim software to download pictures?
Thanks, Barry fung

My cable came with software drivers - the cable appears to have some circuitry enclosed in a small package in the middle of the cable to translate LG to Windows.

I would like to get some more ringtones on my phone without doing the easyedge. Is there another site I can go on to get these?

I have tried all of these things and I still cannot get BitPim to detect my phone. I am getting so frustrated! I can’t get my short MP3’s to my phone and it’s pissing me off. I know BitPim works for my phone, becuase I’ve seen posts about it all over the internet and I got it because someone I know recommended it for my phone, even though it’s not on the list!!! Someone tell me how I can get the files to my phone!!!!!!!!

I am thinking about getting a data cable and using BitPim for it, and I really just need it so that I can transfer my Outlook calendar onto my phone for appointments and such. Does anyone know if this can be done on the LG VX 6100? Thanks.

Anybody know of a good place to buy a new replacement LG Lithium Ion Battery 3.7V 1000mAh? My experience is that buying batteries online is a bad thing. They usually don’t last. thanks!
